Why Raleigh-Durham
Raleigh-Durham has always played like the underdog — a region that built one of the country's deepest college sports cultures without ever needing the national spotlight, then quietly did the same everywhere else. The Durham Bulls turned Triple-A into must-see baseball. The North Carolina Courage became one of the NWSL's model franchises. The Carolina Hurricanes turned a market nobody expected into a Stanley Cup-winning fanbase loud enough to fuel a real, active push to bring Major League Baseball to Raleigh outright.
None of that happened because the Triangle chased hype. It happened because this is a place where people already know how to show up for each other — porches, patios, knowing your neighbor's name, tailgating before anyone's even sure the team is good. Raleigh-Durham already has the culture baseball was built on. We're just giving it a new place to use it.
